How to clean up your YouTube subscriptions

Last reviewed: September 23, 2026 · Markdown version

Start by deciding which of two problems you actually have — because they have different fixes, and mixing them up is how cleanup effort gets wasted.

Problem 1: your Subscriptions feed is noise

YouTube's help page on subscribing says the “Subscriptions feed, available on both mobile and a computer, will show any recently uploaded videos from your subscriptions” (YouTube Help: Subscribe to YouTube channels, read 23 September 2026). So if that feed is unusable, the cause is arithmetic: channels that went quiet contribute nothing, and a handful of high-volume channels can contribute most of what you scroll past. This is the problem unsubscribing fixes. Review the channels you follow — signed in on the web, youtube.com/feed/channels opens a page YouTube titles “All subscriptions” (checked 23 September 2026) — drop the dead and the flooders, and the feed becomes yours again. The same page recommends “capping your account to 5,000 channel subscriptions to make sure the subscriptions feed and channel list give the best experience” — YouTube's own signal that a very long list makes both of them work less well.

Problem 2: your Home recommendations are wrong

Unsubscribing mostly won't fix this one, and it's better to know now. YouTube's page on managing recommendations says they are “also based on videos that you've liked”, that you can turn off watch or search history when you don't want “your watches or searches to influence future recommendations”, and that YouTube “may also use data from your Google Account activity to influence your recommendations” (YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results, read 23 September 2026). The controls it offers are Not interested, Don't recommend channel, and pausing or deleting your history. Your subscription list is not among the inputs that page names. If Home keeps serving a topic you're done with, those controls — not your subscription list — are the lever.

The review is the real work

For problem 1, the channels list gives you names but no context: not who last uploaded in 2023, not who posts six times a day. Finding that out by hand means opening channels one by one, which is exactly where a long cleanup tends to stall.

Where Adinand Channel Sorter fits

Adinand Channel Sorter does that review on your device: it reads your subscription list and each channel's upload history, and shows which channels have gone inactive and which are flooding your feed. It removes only the channels you explicitly select and confirm, with nothing removed automatically, and Undo re-subscribes you and puts the channel back in its category. It works on subscriptions alone; for Home recommendations, use YouTube's own controls above.
